‘Stead in the City got its name in March of 2020, and I just thought it was so clever! ‘Stead being short for homestead, and “in the City”, an homage to a certain premium television show that I was WAY TOO YOUNG to be watching when it was in its prime. It took awhile to convince myself to put my garden on Instagram (we won't even talk about the struggle regarding YouTube); I was worried that traditional homesteaders (and the general public) would scoff at my “little backyard garden” and write me off as a hack of an influencer just trying to latch on to the latest wave. I am proud to say that I could not have been more wrong.
‘Stead in the City quickly evolved into my little space on the internet where I could I share my lifelong passion and knowledge to encourage others to embark on their own ‘stead journey.
Some of my earliest childhood memories are me helping my parents in the garden over the summer. My mom, teaching me the simple joy of rubbing a tomato leaf and instantly filling the air with the undeniable smell of summer. Helping my dad build a dam (we had an in ground garden and we dug tiny trenches for the water and would put dams to slow the water flow to certain crops) being TERRIFIED to say ‘dam’ because I didn’t want to get in trouble. My first freshly picked strawberry…please, a moment of silence.
I’ve gardened for as long as I can remember, and as other hobbies came and went, you can bet your ass I was going to be in a garden planting something come the summer.
‘Stead in the City is the long awaited harvest of seeds sown decades ago. And like any great heirloom variety has been cross pollinated by my education, experiences, and desires out of life — to serve any community I find myself in.
So internet — here I am!
Hi everyone, my name is Tiffany, and Welcome to ‘Stead in the City, where we are ALL one seed away from harvest.
Ciao and Cheers,
Tiffe
